Mad Mad Mad!!! Got to the beach at 5.30pm and found Jon d'Hat and Larry had been measuring the wind on the beach with gusts up to 40 knots. It didn't feel that windy to me, but I thought I'd better rig my 4.5m rather than my 5m just in case.

Once on the water there was onyl just enough wind to get going in the shorebreak and it was really gusty, but I'm glad I went with the 4.5m as once out beyond the worst of the wave the wind went ballistic, much windier than on the beach and I was just hanging on in amongst the huge waves. I did a few big jumps, but in the end played it safe as it was far enough down off the backs of the waves without jumping on top of that! I had my kite ripped out of my hands in a couple of the really big gusts, but luckily this was out beyond the properly breaking waves.

A few mad runs down the faces of the waves on the way in at maximum speed, just hanging on and hoping for the best over the choopy face of the waves.

I then got pumelled by one of the bigger waves and held under for what felt like ages. Grabbed a breath of ait with my lings burning and then the next wave took me under as well. By the time I got back up from that one I only just had enough energy to grab a few breaths of air and hang on to my kit. Whlle I got my breath back got washed back into shore so decided enough was enough. It really wasn't the sort of conditions to be out in on my own as darkness was falling.

I also decided that maybe I shold start swimming or running again to improve my fitness a bit ready for those big rinsings..My lungs are still burning a little now, a couple of hours later.

Top quality conditions though, and I coped well with them
